Ukraine Petition “Call to Action”

BFP Team
Sunday, August 20, 2023
Call To Action, News, Peace Activism, Peace and Economic Justice, Petitions

Dear Congressmember:

IN UKRAINE

Use Diplomacy Not More Weapons! Stop the killing and destruction!

Stop the drift to war with Russia and possible nuclear war!

We need you to be a voice for peace in Ukraine NOW!

President Biden made it very clear—We are closer to thermonuclear war than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis 60 years ago. What insanity!

We abhor and condemn the illegal and brutal Russian invasion, but the enormous danger of this moment demands that you oppose further escalation because of the very real possibility of a World War and nuclear conflict. Please…

    • Use your elected position to demand that our government immediately begin utilizing its considerable leverage to seek a cease-fire and a negotiated peace in Ukraine.
    • Heed the latest Quincy Institute poll showing that 57% of Americans support a negotiated peace even if it means making some concessions with Russia.
    • Keep your constituents and the world safe. Be our Voice For Peace in Congress.
    • Vote NO to spending billions of our dollars, urgently needed at home, on a war that nobody will win and which may become a war where everyone loses.

Finally, stand by the wise words of John Kennedy and move us away from the abyss.
“Nuclear powers must avert those confrontations which bring an adversary
to a choice of either a humiliating retreat or a nuclear war.”

Brooklyn For Peace supports the Not On Our Dime Legislation. From our website:"Although these settlements are all illegal under international law, many of them receive funding from organizations registered as charities in New York State. Between 2017 and 2019 alone, these “charities” funneled at least $144M to Israel and its illegal settlements.By allowing these organizations to continue operating as non-profits while funding ethnic cleansing and war crimes, New York State is subsidizing these atrocities. The Not On Our Dime! Act would end this practice and signal that New Yorkers do not support human rights abuses.Write to your New York state representatives now and ask them to co-sponsor Not On Our Dime! Ending NY Funding of Israeli Settler Violence Act (A6943/S6992)."

Some of the 700+ groups from around the USA and a few other countries who participated in the March to End Fossil Fuels. It looked like the USA we want our country to be.

Brooklyn For Peace

Sep 18, 2023—Here are some photos from yesterday’s historic Climate March To End Fossil Fuels. Some 75,000 walked in solidarity to defend Mother Earth. This summer demonstrated clearly that the crisis and threat of climate collapse is here now, not decades in the future. Thus, the time is now to end fossil fuels which is the main agent of climate destruction. • No more drilling! • No more pipelines! • No more permits for drilling! • No more wars for oil resources! • Joe Biden – Declare a Climate ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Emergency…Now! ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Brooklyn For Peace had a strong contingent and marched alongside other peace organizations. They connected the issue of war (most often fought over oil resources) and environmental destruction. One begets the other in a vicious cycle. ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Young people were leading the way because they will inherit the planet that today’s generation will have left them. They demand a planet they and their children can actually live on. They want action to guarantee that future and they want that action now. ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ They don’t want empty promises and words….they want action now!
