“Rejoin the Iran Deal”: Action Alert!

Despite campaign promises to rejoin the “Iran nuclear deal,” (also known as the JCPOA, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), the Biden Administration has done nothing thus far to reverse Trump’s failed “maximum pressure” policy -imposing crushing sanctions on a nation of 83 million people amidst a global pandemic. In the intervening months, AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) has successfully lobbied members of Congress to assert additional conditions on the Iranian government, before rejoining the treaty. A joint letter by Senators Menendez and Graham (READ LETTER) has garnered 43 signers, while in the House of Representatives, 70 Democrats and 70 Republicans have signed a similar letter. (READ THIS LETTER) This is a thinly disguised effort to ensure that the United States cannot rejoin the treaty.
Our Elected officials need to hear from us!
Two Democratic members of the Brooklyn delegation—Hakeem Jeffries and Carolyn Maloney – have signed on to the AIPAC-backed letter, designed to prevent the United States from rejoining the Iran Nuclear Treaty. They need to hear from us:
Call their offices and reiterate your support for rapid American adherence to the Iran nuclear deal without additional conditions. Express your disappointment with their signature of the House letter which is clearly aimed at preventing the US rejoining of 2015 Iran treaty.

Some positive news is that our two Senators, Schumer and Gillibrand, have not signed the Menendez-Graham letter. It’s also important to call their offices and thank them for their support of the Administration’s commitment to rejoin the nuclear deal.
