April 9, 2026: Press Conference At Jeffries’ Office Demands Action To End War On Iran
- by BFP Team
Dozens of constituents and representatives from a wide range of NYC organizations gathered at Hanson Place in Brooklyn, outside the office of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, for a sidewalk press conference.
Speaker after speaker called on Democratic leaders to take a more vigorous, determined stand against what they described as Trump’s latest outrage: a criminal war against Iran. They emphasized that only Congress can declare war, yet it has remained largely silent amid escalating militarism and threats against Iran. A consistent demand was for Congress to stop delaying and pass a War Powers Resolution as soon as possible. Many speakers were constituents of Jeffries and Representative Gregory Meeks.
Speakers also argued that these wars divert funding from essential public services, worsening an already severe affordability crisis for their communities.
With Congress returning from recess in mid-April, participants urged immediate action to halt Trump’s actions in the Middle East.
