One-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion and occupation in Ukraine. Pick Up the Phone!

Call To Action, News, Peace Activism, Phone Calls

Friday 2/24 marks the one-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion and occupation in Ukraine. Please join Peace Action in a National Call-In to our Congressional representatives, urging them to speak out to for vigorous diplomatic efforts for a cease-fire and negotiations.

Ultimately, there is no military solution to such an intractable and complex global crisis. The longer the conflict goes on, the more bloodshed there will be. At the same time, the United Nations is warning of years of global hardship that include a refugee crisis, and severe disruptions to trade, food security, and human development. The UN has called for urgent action to address this crisis, warning of a looming catastrophe that could bring global destabilization, starvation, and mass migration on an unprecedented scale

Make this call today! Dial the Capitol Hill switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your representative’s office.
Here’s what you can say: “I’m calling to urge you to support and speak out for crucial diplomatic efforts to help end the war in Ukraine. These steps include calling for vigorous diplomatic efforts in support of a negotiated settlement and ceasefire in Ukraine; engaging in direct talks with Russia, exploring prospects for a new European security arrangement acceptable to all parties that will allow for a sovereign and independent Ukraine; and, in coordination with Ukraine, seeking a rapid end to the conflict.”

Brooklyn For Peace supports the Not On Our Dime Legislation. From our website:"Although these settlements are all illegal under international law, many of them receive funding from organizations registered as charities in New York State. Between 2017 and 2019 alone, these “charities” funneled at least $144M to Israel and its illegal settlements.By allowing these organizations to continue operating as non-profits while funding ethnic cleansing and war crimes, New York State is subsidizing these atrocities. The Not On Our Dime! Act would end this practice and signal that New Yorkers do not support human rights abuses.Write to your New York state representatives now and ask them to co-sponsor Not On Our Dime! Ending NY Funding of Israeli Settler Violence Act (A6943/S6992)."

Brooklyn For Peace

Sep 18, 2023—Here are some photos from yesterday’s historic Climate March To End Fossil Fuels. Some 75,000 walked in solidarity to defend Mother Earth. This summer demonstrated clearly that the crisis and threat of climate collapse is here now, not decades in the future. Thus, the time is now to end fossil fuels which is the main agent of climate destruction. • No more drilling! • No more pipelines! • No more permits for drilling! • No more wars for oil resources! • Joe Biden – Declare a Climate ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Emergency…Now! ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Brooklyn For Peace had a strong contingent and marched alongside other peace organizations. They connected the issue of war (most often fought over oil resources) and environmental destruction. One begets the other in a vicious cycle. ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ Young people were leading the way because they will inherit the planet that today’s generation will have left them. They demand a planet they and their children can actually live on. They want action to guarantee that future and they want that action now. ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ ‫‬ They don’t want empty promises and words….they want action now!
