Genocidal Violence Continues in Tigray Region of Ethiopia

BFP Team
Thursday, June 23, 2022
Africa, Call To Action, Peace Activism, Petitions

Updates as of 6-24-22

The record shows there is genocide in Tigray. (Ethiopia Insight)

Ethiopia’s Invisible Ethnic Cleansing The World Can’t Afford to Ignore Tigray
(Foreign Affairs)

There’s Genocide in Tigray, but Nobody’s Talking About it (David Volodzko in The Nation)

Half a Million Dead in Tigray: and the World Just Yawns by BFP Board Member Dr. Mohammed Nurhussein in the Black Star News. Why is there is a conspiracy of silence in the face of genocide?

Bloomberg News headlined a few weeks ago-‘the deadliest war is not in Ukraine but in Ethiopia‘. Where is the outrage? the compassion, the humanitarian response?

See recent article by BFP Board Member Dr. Mohammed Nurhussein in the Black Star News.  There is a conspiracy of silence in the face of genocide.

On April 6, 2022, BBC reported that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW) have accused Amhara officials and regional special forces and militias fighting in western Tigray of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. They also accused Ethiopia’s military of complicity in those acts. See the report from Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.

Please sign this petition calling on the Senate to pass S. 3199, the Ethiopia Peace and Democracy Act. It’s a complement to H.R. 6600, the Ethiopia Stabilization, Peace and Democracy Promotion Act of 2021. The Act allows the US Government to use its diplomatic, development and legal tools to support an end to the civil war. Furthermore, it holds perpetrators of serious human rights violations accountable. Passage of S. 3199 in the Senate would effectively contribute to ending the humanitarian siege in Tigray and bring much needed relief to the millions starving from lack of food and medicine.

After you sign, pick up the phone! Call Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, and your Representative.
Congressional Switchboard: 202-224-3121
The extra effort lets them know that you care about this issue.

It's overdue for the US government to take concrete action to address Israel’s continuous human rights violations against Palestinians.
Urge your Members of Congress now to join @RepBowman & @SenSanders' letter on Palestinian rights. TAKE ACTION: http://bit.ly/BowmanSandersLetter
