Dr. Partha Banerjee is a BFP member and recipient of the 2023 PathMaker to Peace award. He has been involved with the Bangladeshi community in the U.S. since the September Eleven tragedy. Having been born and raised in West Bengal, the other side of a partitioned Bengal border, he understands the social, economic and political landscape, and keeps sharing his knowledge and insight on the history and culture of the region. For years, he has worked against the rise of religious extremism in South Asia, and published a number of books. The recent scary developments in Bangladesh, in his opinion, should remind us about parallel events in Egypt, Pakistan, India and other places where vested global powers have destroyed democracy, and hijacked people’s movements.
