After 20 years of war in Afghanistan, the Afghan people are suffering more than ever. Hunger could kill more now than in 20 years of war.  In the words of the International Red Cross, the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is a “human-made catastrophe.” Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, recently warned that millions of Afghans are on the “verge of death.” He urged the international community to fund the U.N.’s $5 billion humanitarian appeal, release Afghanistan’s frozen assets, and jump-start the banking system, to avert economic and social collapse.

2-3 pm: Join Peace Action Bay Ridge at 86th St & 4th Ave, in a Valentine’s Day vigil, demanding that the Biden administration unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets.
