On Caring for Our Common Home: Climate Change & the Moral Imperative Tues Apr 20 @ 7PM
April 20, 2021 @ 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Speaker: Michael B. Gerrard, the Andrew Sabin Professor of Professional Practice, Columbia Law School and Director, Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, Columbia Law School
Professor Gerrard was invited by Pope Francis to speak to the Vatican following the release of Laudato Si, the climate change encyclical. His focus during that talk was on the impact of climate change on immigration and human trafficking.
Sponsor: St. Boniface Social Justice Action; part of the Brooklyn Oratory’s broader focus on climate change.
Co-sponsor: Brooklyn For Peace
Brooklyn For Peace, while not a faith-based community, is very interested in working with other groups to link the response to climate change with a moral imperative. We are committed to working to reverse climate change, and to call attention to the significant role the military and war-making has on global warming. At the same time, the mass displacement and migrations of millions caused by climate disasters, and the desire of developed countries to control sources of fossil fuels, are predicates of war.
