SUN: “Off the Meter, On the Record” a leftist veteran storytelling show

April 30 @ 3:00 PM 4:30 PM

Join John McDonagh and Veterans for Peace on April 30th at 3:00 p.m. for a special benefit performance of “Off the Meter, On the Record” at the Principles G.I. Coffeehouse. Owned by Marine Veteran Katie Bishop, Principles is much more than just a place to get a great cup of coffee. It is a welcoming space created to develop a community that includes veterans, queer folk and all other people who are not expressly welcome in regular society. Katie Bishop begged, borrowed and borrowed some more to be able to create this magical place, and this benefit performance of “Off the Meter” is a small way of fellow veterans showing their support.

John McDonagh knows New York City better than most. He has been driving a New York City yellow cab for 40 years, and used that experience to write and perform a one-man play called “Off the Meter” about his observations of a changing New York City. “Off the Meter” was produced by The Irish Repertory Theatre and was directed by the Irish Rep’s founder Ciaran O’Reilly. McDonagh has performed his play throughout the tri-state area and recently returned from a successful tour of Ireland. John also produces and hosts Radio Free Eireann with co-host Malachy McCourt, a weekly radio shows heard on Pacifica station WBAI, New York.

NOTE: Tickets are on a sliding scale.
