What would it mean to demilitarize and defund the NYPD?

On October 8, 2020, Brooklyn For Peace sponsored a forum to imagine what genuine community safety would look like. Featured speakers Alex Vitale, Sociology Professor at Brooklyn College and author of The End of Policing and Rev. Dr. Emma Jordan-Simpson, Exec. Pastor, Concord Baptist Church and Exec. Director, Fellowship of Reconciliation, led a robust and unique discussion on what the militarization of police has meant and the cost of relying on police to address too many of our societal issues.

See Highlights (Part Two) from the Reimagining Community Safety Forum on BFP’s monthly program “War No More” on Brooklyn Public Access Television (BRIC): (Brooklyn Free Speech Ch 2). “War No More” is cablecast every month, at 8 am and 10 pm, on the second Tuesday of the month and on the following Thursday in the same week.
