Okinawa Remembrance Day (In-person)

June 23 is the Memorial Day in Okinawa, to remember all soldiers and civilians from Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the US. who died in Okinawa. The “Cornerstone of Peace” in Okinawa is a monument inscribed with the names of 241,632 civilians, military personnel, and civilians who died in the Battle of Okinawa, regardless of their place of origin or nationality. Every year people gather around this memorial, built at the center of the battle site, remembering those who perished, and pledging peace.
