No Escalation of War in Ukraine!
We unequivocally deplore and condemn the Russian military action in Ukraine. As Americans we need to push our government to use all diplomatic means to address the underlying issues, and not to further escalate the military response.
Join us on Saturday, February 26, 12 noon (Eastern time) for an International Rally! Say NO to War in Ukraine, and NO to NATO Expansion.
Organized by CODEPINK, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Stop the War Coalition and No to NATO Network.
Save the Date: Saturday March 5, 3 pm: Anti-War Rally! Join a coalition of antiwar, ecosocial justice, free speech, human rights and veterans groups Father Duffy Square: North side of Times Square, Intersection of Broadway & Seventh Avenue, btw W. 45th & 46th St
Check out these statements:
- United for Peace and Justice: “It is time for the people of the world to cry Enough! No more war threats, no more War! The peace movement must be a global people’s movement, aligned with the policies of no government….”
- Peace Action Statement: “Nobody should oversimplify the current situation. While no one but Russia is responsible for the decision to send troops and tanks into Ukraine, many decisions led to this day…”
- International Peace Bureau: “The IPB condemns Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. The bombardments must be stopped immediately. What is needed is a comprehensive ceasefire, the withdrawal of all troops and a return to the negotiating table. There is no military solution, only a political solution based on the principles of common security.” See the Statement of Solidarity with Demonstrators in Russia and the People of Ukraine & Russian Petition signed by more than 300.000 Russians as of Feb. 24.
- World Beyond War: “President Biden is half right when he refers to ‘an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces’ — unjustified indeed, unprovoked not in the least…”
- Stop the War Coalition Statement (a British group): “This dispute could and should be resolved peacefully, and that remains the only basis for a lasting settlement, rather than the imposition of military solutions. That it has not been resolved is not, however, the responsibility of the Russian or Ukrainian governments alone…”
- CODEPINK: “We cannot risk a military confrontation between the world’s two most heavily armed nuclear states–the United States and Russia. What we need instead is vigorous diplomacy to promote de-escalation and seek a negotiated solution, to avoid war and advance the Minsk II diplomatic process…” (Read and sign.)
THEN PICK UP THE PHONE! Call again, even if you called before.
Call Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, and your Representative. Urge them to demand continued efforts at diplomacy, and NOT to add fuel to the fire with still more arms sales and calls for NATO to carve out an enclave in Western Ukraine. We need Build Back Better and More Diplomacy, NOT More War!!
