Mon: Milton Allimadi’s Book “Adwa”: Reading and Signing

March 6, 2023 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Celebration of Women’s History Month and Ethiopia’s Battle of Adwa Victory!

Come celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring Ethiopia’s Empress Taytu’s role in defeating Italian army seeking to colonize Ethiopia at the Battle of Adwa on March 1, 1896. The Ethiopians killed nearly 3,000 Italian soldiers including two generals and captured almost an equal number and put them to work under African supervision. They were released after Italy paid war reparations. This story of victory over white supremacy needs to be s more widely known.

Mr. Allimadi will be signing and reading from his recently published book (“Adwa: Empress Taytu and Emperor Menelik in Love and War”).  The event is hosted by State Senator Cordell Cleare. Guests include Ethiopian author Dr. Mohammed Nurhussein (author of the memoir “Made in Ethiopia” who will read from his book), Dr. James McIntosh Co-founder of the Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive to African People (CEMOTAP), Poet Tiffany Denise, and others.

The event is at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office building on 163 @ 125th Street, 2nd Floor, in Harlem.

Hardcover Book will be available at the reading; the E-book is available on Amazon.

The book is also available on www.taytuandmenelik.com
