Brooklyn For Peace (Antimilitarism Committee) met the thousands of Coney Island Mermaid Parade spectators on Saturday, June 18 and demanded money for healthcare, jobs, schools, and housing – not WAR .
BFP distributed peace sign mardi gras beads to the crowd, along with flyers urging everyone to call our Senators to get the troops home and negotiate peace. The flyer also includes information about Opting Out under No Child Left Behind to stop our high schools from providing personal contact information about students to military recruiters. We were accompanied by music.
This fun, raucous event helps us spread our message to folks who wouldn’t otherwise ever attend a rally or demonstration against war.
