Vigils for Darfur

Every Wednesday in September, then continuing first Wednesday of each month
12:00 to 2:00 pm

At US Mission to the United Nations, 140 E. 45th St, (between Lexington and 3rd Ave.), Manhattan

This is the time for the U.S. to use its leverage to push UN to enforce the resolutions it has already passed.

• Deploy the already-authorized UN troops (UNAMID) and impose multilateral sanctions on the Sudanese regime, to end ongoing atrocities, being carried out with impunity by the Sudanese government.
• Call for international justice and accountability, including arrest of Sudanese officials who have been indicted by the International Criminal Court.

Now is a time of renewed violence in Darfur. On March 4, 2009, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for President Al-Bashir, who has responded by expelling aid groups which are providing essential services (food, health care, water) for more than a million Darfuris in Internally-Displaced-Person camps.
