Tell City Council:
Get J-ROTC* Out of Our Schools!
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
This year NYC taxpayers will shell out over $1.5 million for the J-ROTC programs at selected NYC high schools.
Our taxes pay for J-ROTC to teach war. A Department of Army memorandum advises J-ROTC instructors to work closely with high school guidance counselors to sell the Army story.
Join the Granny Peace Brigade campaign to stop this waste and misuse of taxpayer money!
Call your City Councilmember! Say you don’t want your tax dollars spent to teach and recruit for war.
Also you can write a letter and stop by in person! It’s important to let them know that you care about this issue.
Go to College–Not War!: A Guide to Military Alternatives
The military is not the only option for an education or job training. We have compiled a list of resources, some Brooklyn, some New York City, some national, that can help students apply to college and find financial aid, get vocational training and prepare for job interviews, and learn about paid community service positions. To learn more about alternatives to the military, check out our guide Go to College or Work–Not War!
Please feel free to make and distribute copies of our guide or use the information in your own materials. If you know of additional resources, please let us know.

The Anti-Militarism Committee of Brooklyn For Peace has put together a flyer about drones. The flyer has been circulating at various Brooklyn events, and we continue to work to spread information about the current state of drone usage in the U.S. and internationally.

The Anti-Militarism Committee has the broad goal of reducing the strength of militarism in the U.S. We focus our efforts on countering military recruitment, particularly in the New York City Public Schools.
While committee members have a variety of views concerning pacifism and the need for a military, we are united in our strong beliefs that the war in Iraq, and the potential attacks on Iran, Venezuela, North Korea or other countries are wrong and that no one should be enlisting in the military at this time to enable such wars.
We can make an important contribution to the peace movement by strengthening counter-recruitment efforts, both through direct action and political organizing.
You can become a part of the movement against militarism:
- Join our working committee. Email us at email@example.com or call 718-624-5921 for time and location of next meeting.
- Leaflet outside NYC public high schools. We pass out information to students on opting out of military recruiting as well as alternatives to the military. We leaflet a different school each month. Email us for information.
We are actively working in these areas:
