Greet thousands of spectators with our message: Money for healthcare, jobs, schools, and housing – not WAR .
1 pm sharp: Meet outside the Mermaid Deli on the corner of West 21st Street and Mermaid Avenue. We’ll need to register as a group one block away.
2 pm: Parade begins.
Fee: $10 registration for adults; $5 for children. We can cover the fee for you: let us know if that’s an issue. .
We’ll have:
  • costumes for everyone to become a Mermaid For Peace!
  • sunscreen
  • peace sign mardi gras beads for the crowd.
  • flyers urging everyone to call our Senators: bring the troops home now
  • information about Opting Out under “No Child Left Behind”: stop our high schools from providing personal contact information about students to military recruiters
  • live music!
This fun, raucous event helps us spread our message to folks who wouldn’t otherwise ever attend a rally or demonstration against war.

Vigil for Darfur
Why? The Government of Sudan in Khartoum continues to foment violence in various border regions across the North/South divide as the upcoming independence of South Sudan approaches. Last week, Abyei town was bombarded and attacked by Sudanese government forces. The Khartoum government continues to believe it can act with impunuity.
We need to keep this issue in the public eye. Demand U.N. investigation.
Location: U.S. Mission to the United Nations, 45th St and First Avenue (700 United Nations Plaza)
